The Legend of the Eight: Volume I

The Anunnaki
Written by Sigarin the Dwarven Kruath'ri

From the Library of K'eld Alorin

The subject of the history of the Kruath'ri during the period after the coming of The'Galin to this world and his subsequent attack upon its people is something of an interesting matter. Most Kruath'ri societies became fiercely divided, those who followed the old ways of elemental adherence were cast outside of the city as exiles. Those who were related to them or otherwise broke Kruath'ri custom or law were likewise exiled - though their punishment was less severe, and they were allowed to live in the shadows of the great K'elds as De'me'thar, a term which means "outsider".

Some of the mages within the city apparently became discontented with this situation early on and broke away to form their own city on the continent of Vandar. This city, known as Alorin, very secretly allowed select members of other races who were considered bright and promising to study at this K'eld and called them Kruath'ri, or "citizens", even as if they themselves were Drakel. Such was my case and I too came to study at Alorin.

Other powerful Drakel magi, certain that the Key to understanding and fighting The'Galin lay in knowing him, followed him out of the World. Some may have been taken by force and over time they grew and adapted in ways entirely different from the Drakel that eventually populated Lore. What scant evidence is available of these creatures suggests that while they maintained something of a reptilian aspect, their continued research of magic and life lost their physical nature altogether - becoming a sort of reptilian energy organism.

However, in this state they found themselves unable to survive for any great length and eventually adapted a method of survival that involved them integrating their essence and nature with a host, often but not always at the point of birth. This type of energy shapeshifter has been called an Annunaki or "faceless" because of their shapeshifting. Of these Annunaki, there are several varieties their purposes are varied.
